Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko will place flowers at a cenotaph for victims at the Millennium Hope Hills of Iwanuma City on March 13.

Before the Imperial couple’s visit, we’d like to share how the seedlings that originated from the Imperial Palace are growing at the nursery which we manage at Tohoku Life-Saving Green Embankment Promotion Council.

We received 4 kinds of seeds from the Imperial Palace through the Forestry Agency last spring 2014.

Now, these seedlings have been growing healthily enduring against severe cold in Tohoku.

In spring 2016, we will plant these seedlings in The 4th Tree Planting Festival on the Millennium Hope Hills of Iwanuma City.

At the third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction, the Forested Coastal Embankments Symposium will take place as a Public Forum, on the 17th March 2015 from 14:00.

We will be displaying the seedlings from the Imperial Palace at this time, so please feel free to see how they are growing.
